Anthropic has overtaken ChatGPT maker OpenAI in business clients for the first time, according to fintech firm Ramp. It signals a major shift in the fast-growing artificial intelligence market.

Data showed that 34.4% of surveyed businesses now pay for Anthropic’s AI services, compared with 32.3% for OpenAI. The figures were based on expense records from more than 50,000 companies.
Anthropic gained strong support from finance, technology, and professional services firms by focusing on technical customers and building tools tailored to workplace needs. Its business growth accelerated sharply over the past year.
In May 2025, only 9% of the companies surveyed used Anthropic products. That number later jumped by 26%, while OpenAI’s share slipped by 1%.
The broader AI market also continued expanding, with overall business use of AI tools rising 9% over the past 12 months.
