Apple’s AI device could be the size of an AirTag, pinned to clothes, and could feature built-in cameras, a microphone, and speakers
Apple is entering the wearable AI race. According to The Information, the tech giant is working on an artificial intelligence device roughly the size of an AirTag.
The wearable will be a pin that can be attached to clothes, and will feature built-in cameras, a microphone, and speakers.
Apple is reportedly accelerating its timeline for a potential 2027 launch.
Analysts are skeptical
Experts see the device’s utility as not new, considering the Apple Watch and AirPods already offer hands-free access to Apple’s ecosystem.
The idea of an always-on camera also raises surveillance concerns, echoing the pushback seen against Meta’s smart glasses.
Tech gurus also pointed out that previous attempts at AI wearables, notably the Humane AI Pin, have failed. Created by Apple alumni, Humane’s device struggled to find an audience and ultimately led to the company’s dissolution.
The race is on
OpenAI’s device, which is overseen by former Apple design chief Jony Ive, is expected to be unveiled this year. It is rumored to be screenless, wearable, and bigger in size. The company’s innovation and growth are a concern to Apple. Recently, several top staff jumped ship to the ChatGPT maker.
