Sora can create high-quality videos from text prompts|@OpenAI|X

ChatGPT maker OpenAI unveiled its AI video generator, Sora, on Thursday. The technology creates high-quality videos from text prompts and is available to select researchers and academics for study to prevent misuse.

OpenAI showcased Sora’s vivid and seemingly realistic AI video clips on its website and social media. Visuals included a woman walking around Tokyo streets, California during the Gold Rush era, a movie trailer for a space sci-fi film, and much more.

CEO Sam Altman took text requests from his X (Twitter) followers and posted Sora-generated videos from those prompts. Despite its potential, the video generator still exhibits some flaws, including spatial issues.

OpenAI acknowledges concerns regarding the technology’s potential for misinformation and hateful content, particularly in light of the upcoming 2024 presidential election. The company says it is implementing measures such as watermarks to mitigate risks.
