Meta has invested significantly in Scale AI, raising the San Francisco-based startup’s valuation from $14 billion last year to over $29 billion.
As part of the deal, Scale’s founder Alexandr Wang will join Meta to work on its AI superintelligence efforts, though he’ll remain on Scale’s board. Jason Droege will step in as interim CEO.
Meta will now hold a minority stake, marking one of its largest outside investments.
Scale plans to use the funds to boost innovation and expand client relationships.
Though the exact investment amount wasn’t disclosed, The Wall Street Journal earlier reported Meta might invest around $14 billion for a 49% stake.
Scale, which serves OpenAI, Google, and Meta, manages over 100,000 global contractors who train AI tools.
