JetBlue passengers can save $10 by checking bags during booking or 24 hours before their flight|Adam Fagen|CC BY-NC-SA 2.0

JetBlue is shaking up baggage fees with dynamic pricing, introducing varying charges depending on the departure day.

The move follows industry trends, with American, United and Delta raising their baggage fees.

During off-peak periods, checking bags within 24 hours of the flight incurs a fee of $45 for the first bag and $60 for the second bag—within the US, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean.

During peak travel times, which include summer, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, President’s Day, and spring break, the fees will rise to $50 for the first bag and $70 for the second.

For transatlantic flights, peak fees are even higher, at $70 for the first bag and $115 for the second one when checked within 24 hours of the flight.

To sweeten the change, JetBlue is suggesting two strategies.

First, passengers can save $10 by checking bags during booking or 24 hours before their flight.

Additionally, travelers can avoid paying for their first checked bag entirely by booking their ticket with the JetBlue Plus Card.

The company’s adjustments aim to offset pandemic losses and an unsuccessful merger attempt with Spirit Airline.
