Lay’s is revamping its chip bags to emphasize authenticity and healthier ingredients. Later this year, the offerings will feature the phrase “Made with real potatoes.”

Owner PepsiCo plans to boost the brand’s farm-to-table image by switching to olive and avocado oils and removing artificial colors from its barbecue flavors.

The redesigned matte bags will show images of potatoes and chips, highlighting the absence of artificial flavors and dyes.

The revamp is much needed, considering the Lay’s, Doritos, and Cheetos unit has posted slowing sales growth since 2022. It brings in 60% of PepsiCo’s annual sales.

PepsiCo’s struggles
The company faces declining snack sales and an 8.7% drop in share price this year.

Activist investor Elliott Management has urged the company to streamline its operations. CEO Ramon Laguarta has pledged to revitalize North American food sales by reshaping products and cutting costs.

PepsiCo aims to win back health-conscious customers while preserving Lay’s signature taste and affordability.
