Nvidia has joined forces with healthcare startup Hippocratic AI to introduce virtual “nurses” via video calls at $9 per hour.

These “empathetic healthcare agents” will be trained on Hippocratic’s large language model (LLM). It could prove to be a cost-effective way for companies to replace humans in areas that require virtual assistance.

Dozens of healthcare providers are testing the bots for non-diagnostic patient interactions, such as post-op check-ups, nutritional advice and pharmacy consultations.

The collaboration aims to address the ongoing nursing shortages in the US and reduce costs for healthcare providers, Nvidia and Hippocratic said in a press release.

How does this work?
In a demo video by Nvidia, a virtual “GenAI Healthcare Agent,” Rachel, is seen conducting a post-appendectomy follow-up of a patient in real time.

However, concerns arise regarding the adequacy of these AI agents for medical tasks despite claims of their superiority over human nurses.
