Susan Wojcicki, the CEO of YouTube for the past nine years and one of the most promising women in tech, announced on Thursday that she is stepping down from her role.

Wojcicki was Google’s first marketing executive and the 16th employee. She even rented out her Menlo Park, California, house garage to founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin to set up their very first Google office in 1998.

In her YouTube goodbye blog Wojcicki said she wants to, “start a new chapter focused on my family, health and personal projects I’m passionate about.”

What’s next
YouTube’s chief product officer Neal Mohan will be its CEO.

Wojcicki’s departure from YoutTube comes during a tumultuous time since the video streaming giant is facing decreased ad revenues and losing users to TikTok.
