Alabama and Georgia witnessed a giant storm that spawned a tornado on Thursday and claimed at least seven lives and ripped apart nearly 40 homes.

The storm toppled trees in Selma and around 49,000 customers in Georgia lost electricity.

Six deceased are from Autauga County, Alabama, while the Georgian death was a passenger who was killed when a tree fell on a car.

The storm destroyed a 20-mile route between two rural areas and seriously wounded residents of mobile homes.

Tornado warnings have been issued to the neighboring states of Mississippi and Tennessee.
