The intense blizzard conditions and frigid temperatures brought in by winter storm Elliott has claimed at least 50 lives as of Monday. Thousands are facing driving bans, airport closures and power outages.

Buffalo, New York alone has lost 27 lives and around 10,000 customers in the city are still without power.

Sadly, death tolls are expected to rise with search and rescue missions in progress. NY state— which experienced up to 48 inches of snow on Monday—deployed more than 400 National Guards to help clear pathways using trucks and snow plows.

Airports have announced numerous flight delays and cancellations—about 3,800 airplanes were canceled into or out of the nation—on Monday, according to FlightAware.

Weather officials expect more snowfall on Tuesday, and winter storm warnings remain effective in some regions of New York.
