Speaking to the lawmakers, Dr. Anthony Fauci stressed never influencing research on the coronavirus’s origins

Republicans on the House panel grilled Dr. Anthony Fauci in a public hearing yesterday when the ex-director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) appeared before a subcommittee.

He was accused of suppressing the origin of COVID-19 by some Republicans, a claim that he firmly denied.

Speaking to the lawmakers, Dr. Fauci stressed never influencing research on the coronavirus’s origins. He believes the pandemic most likely started with animal-to-human transmission but clarified that considering a lab leak isn’t a conspiracy theory and that distorting the idea is misleading.

The former chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden was also questioned about personal email use for government business and accused of hiding public records. He denied both claims.

Dr. Fauci also shared how he and his family faced harassment and death threats.
