Most affected by the trade levies were electronics, cars, toys, and foods that are not made in the USA

New research from the nonpartisan Tax Foundation reveals that President Donald Trump’s tariffs cost the average American household $1,000 in 2025.

It is expected to soar to $1,300 per household this year if the President’s trade barriers persist.

His policies have pushed the average US tariff rate from 2% in 2024 to 10% last year, the highest level since 1946.

Most affected by the trade levies were electronics, cars, toys, and foods that are not made in the USA. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the prices of coffee surged by 33.6%, ground beef by 19.3%, and frozen orange juice by 12.4%.

Despite the high prices, the overall annual inflation rate stood at 2.7% in December, a rate similar to when Trump entered the White House for a second term.
