The job growth was led by professional and business services with 74,000

The US economy added 353,000 nonfarm jobs in January, a surprisingly strong increase that exceeded Dow Jones estimates of 185,000 jobs.

According to government data released yesterday, the number is up from December’s revised 333,000 jobs. The unemployment rate held steady at 3.7% for the third consecutive month.

The job growth was led by professional and business services with 74,000.

The report shows the economy’s resilience but raises questions about how soon the Federal Reserve will be able to lower interest rates.
