Columbia University has decided to conduct its classes in a hybrid format to ensure the safety of students after more than 100 protestors were arrested last week for asking the school to divest from companies that profit from Israel’s war in Gaza.

The protestors also asked the university to sever ties with Israeli institutes.

Jewish students expressed fear and concern for their safety, leading some to opt out of campus events.

Over the weekend, similar protests regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict spread to other campuses like New York University (NYU), Yale, MIT, Harvard and Boston University.

Last week, Colombia’s president, Nemat Shafik, suspended 15 students and one visiting professor over their alleged antisemitism on campus.
