Officials are monitoring a clean-up of a leak of 400,000 gallons of radioactive water from a nuclear power plant in the city of Monticello and claim there is no danger from the leak.

According to Xcel Energy, which runs the plant, the spillage was “fully contained.”

The leak was discovered in November 2022 and state and federal regulators were notified by Xcel. But the general public was notified just last week.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission even put out a public notice about it.

Leak was contained and cleanup is ongoing
Minnesota officials are monitoring the clean up and Xcel Energy says the leak “is fully contained on-site and has not been detected beyond the facility or in any local drinking water,” on Thursday.
