AMC Theatres posted record second-quarter revenue as Hollywood’s strong lineup of blockbuster movies brought more audiences back to cinemas.
The world’s largest cinema chain reported revenue of $1.59 billion, up 14% from $1.39 billion a year earlier. Its adjusted earnings rose by 70%.
Although its net loss widened to $11.4 million from $4.7 million, the company achieved a record adjusted EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) of $320.6 million, reflecting stronger operating performance.
Investors welcomed the results, sending AMC shares up 17% in pre-market trading. The recovery was driven by major releases such as Toy Story 5, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Backrooms, Obsession, and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which delivered the biggest live-action opening of 2026 and the director’s highest-ever global debut.
AMC CEO Adam Aron said the US box office reached $2.99 billion during the quarter, making it the strongest second quarter in seven years. Attendance rose 12% in the US to 52.2 million moviegoers, while international attendance increased 18% to 18.7 million.
The company plans to expand premium large-screen formats and upgrade seating to boost revenue without raising ticket prices.
AMC also remains focused on reducing debt and controlling costs as it continues its recovery from the pandemic.
