James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash continued its winning streak over New Year’s Eve with $8.1 million in ticket sales. The Disney-backed sequel is expected to surpass $1 billion globally within days.

Other strong performers included Disney’s Zootopia 2, which reached a domestic total of $337.9 million, and A24’s Marty Supreme, starring Timothee Chalamet, which maintained third place with $39 million.

Hollywood ticket sales in North America reached $8.87 billion in 2025. It is a 1.5% increase over 2024, but is shy of the $9 billion target many analysts anticipated.

While premium formats like IMAX have helped boost revenue through higher ticket prices, overall attendance has yet to return to pre-pandemic levels.

Interestingly, theaters are increasingly turning to alternative content to fill seats, such as theatrical screenings of the Stranger Things finale.
