Paramount announced Tuesday that it struck a deal with Activision to develop, produce, and distribute a live-action Call of Duty (COD) film based on the blockbuster shooter game franchise.
COD has sold over 500 million copies worldwide since its 2003 launch. It is one of the best-selling games out there, and a movie based on it could be well-received at the box office.
Microsoft-owned Activision had created a studio in 2015 to make a COD movie, but nothing came about.
Paramount CEO David Ellison, a self-professed superfan, promised the film will stay true to the franchise’s “rich narrative and distinctive style.”
The deal comes after Paramount merged with Skydance in August.
The studio also inked a four-year deal with the Stranger Things creators Duffer Brothers and snapped up US rights to UFC in a $7.7 billion, seven-year deal starting in 2026.
