‘Widow’s Bay’ dominates Emmys with record 14 wins

Hollywood had a new favorite at the 78th Emmy Awards: Widow’s Bay. The Apple TV series swept the ceremony Monday night, winning 14 awards—the most ever for a comedy in a single season.

It won for outstanding comedy series and also collected awards for writing and directing, while Stephen Root and Kate O’Flynn won supporting acting trophies.

The show’s lead Matthew Rhys took home the award for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series. Rhys made Emmy history with another victory. He won for outstanding lead actor in a limited or anthology series for The Beast in Me, becoming the first man to win lead acting awards in two categories in the same year.

Rhea Seehorn earned her first Emmy for Pluribus, while Jean Smart claimed her fifth comedy-actress trophy for Hacks. Smart became the first performer to win the comedy acting award in every season of a show’s run.

Meanwhile, The Pitt won in the best drama category, with Noah Wyle winning his second consecutive Emmy for the medical drama.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, canceled by CBS this year, added another major moment, winning for best variety series.

The ceremony also honored Michael J. Fox for his humanitarian work supporting Parkinson’s research.
