The animated flick KPop Demon Hunters is breaking Netflix viewership records and topping global music charts.
It has stayed atop the platform’s Top 10 list for two consecutive weeks and recently hit 25.8 million views—marking the first time a Netflix film reached a new peak in its fifth week.
The movie about a three-girl K-pop group, “HUNTR/X,” who moonlight as demon slayers, has become a family-friendly watch, and its songs are catchy.
Its breakout song “Golden” even topped the Billboard Global 200 and Spotify daily charts.
Analysts say it may become Netflix’s biggest animated original to date. The streaming giant, long aiming to compete with Disney in family animation, may have found the winning formula: K-pop + animation.
It may also help in gaining Gen Alpha subscribers, who often use YouTube.
The family-friendly genre accounts for 15% of Netflix’s global viewership. Additionally, PG-rated films have outgrossed PG-13 movies at the box office since 2023, according to Comscore data.
