The deal brings ‘South Park’ to Paramount+|South Park|Facebook

The creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, have reportedly struck a five-year, $1.5 billion streaming rights deal with Paramount, making it one of the most valuable TV franchises.

It will bring the satirical cartoon to Paramount+ and end a chaotic rights battle.

What happened?
Parker and Stone’s production company, Park County, and Paramount own the license to the show.

The digital rights went to HBO Max back in 2019. When it expired this June, Paramount sought to reclaim them, but Parker and Stone aimed to explore other potential buyers. They accused the company of interfering with negotiations and nearly sued.

However, now they seem to have agreed to deliver 10 new episodes annually. They will also share nearly half the streaming revenue.

Additionally, the creators are renegotiating their existing $900 million overall deal with the company.

South Park’s 27th season premieres today on Comedy Central.
