‘Digger’ starring Tom Cruise had a steep $160 million-plus production cost|@diggerthemovie|X

Dark comedy Digger has grossed just $8 million domestically and $12 million internationally, marking Tom Cruise’s lowest opening since 2007.

The Warner Bros. movie, directed by Oscar-winning Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, could manage only fifth place at the North American box office.

It had a $160 million-plus production cost and a reported break-even point of at least $300 million. The film could ultimately lose up to $200 million, Variety reports.

The film earned a C CinemaScore and a 71% Rotten Tomatoes audience score.

The mixed reviews cap a rough 2026 for Warner Bros., with none of the studio’s releases crossing $100 million domestically. That stands in stark contrast to its successful 2025 slate, which included Sinners, A Minecraft Movie and Weapons.

Meanwhile, Amazon MGM Studios’ Verity, starring Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson, dominated the box office with a $32.7 million domestic debut and $62.5 million worldwide, taking the top spot. The thriller is based on Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name.
