In a momentous step towards conservation, the Biden administration unveiled a comprehensive proposal on Thursday to protect the imperiled greater sage grouse population.

The plan, meticulously crafted by the Bureau of Land Management, entails stringent measures to curtail oil and gas drilling, mining and livestock grazing across expansive swathes of the American West.

From 1965 to 2021, the population of sage grouse has dropped by 80%, with only 200,000 remaining today, per the US Geological Survey.

This initiative will cover nearly 67 million acres of critical habitat across 10 states.
