Excessive rain in Mississippi’s Jackson has damaged one of the state capital’s water-treatment plants, leaving some 150,000 residents without drinking water.

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves on Monday night declared a state of emergency, following which the state’s Emergency Management Agency will start distributing both drinking and non-potable water in the city. The National Guard will also be called in to help.

“I get it. I live in the city. It’s not news (of water shortage) I want to hear,” Reeves said. “But we are going to be there for you.”
