The US should work on more effective ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions over the next 30 years to satisfy the international climate goals, a government report suggested.

The COP27 climate summit viewed the draft of the Fifth National Climate Assessment, a report released by Congress every four years that explained the climate crisis the country is facing.

According to the report, the country’s emission rates decreased by a significant 12% between 2007 and 2019.

But the amount must go down more than 6% annually to fulfill President Joe Biden’s plan of decarbonizing the economy by 2050. The US is behind China as the second largest emitter of carbon dioxide.

The report suggested that encouraging the use of electric vehicles, supporting renewable energy development, and decreasing methane emissions can effectively reduce greenhouse emissions.
