The train derailment that sparked a chemical fire in Kentucky’s Livingston city is fully extinguished, and evacuated residents can return home, said operator CSX yesterday.

The Environmental Protection Agency is continuously monitoring the air quality in the area.

Around 16 cars of a CSX train derailed on Thanksgiving eve, out of which two carrying molten sulfur caught fire. Nearly 200 residents were evacuated and hosted at a school.

Governor Beshear declared a state of emergency to activate resources for families affected by the incident.

Investigation into what caused the derailment is ongoing.
