McDonald’s is launching CosMc’s this month, a new alien-themed venture in Chicago, marking the first new restaurant concept in the fast food chain’s 60-year history.

The venture is named after CosMc, the alien mascot from 1980s McDonald’s ads.

The CosMc’s will have an extraterrestrial theme and a focus on to-go orders of specialty beverages and coffee. It will also offer a small selection of food items, such as the Egg McMuffin breakfast sandwich.

Demand for drive-throughs
The Chicago CosMc’s will feature four drive-through lanes, forgoing traditional dining spaces to meet the demand for takeout orders.

The fast food giant aims to compete with takeaway drink chains like Starbucks and Dutch Bros by offering drive-throughs.

Not just McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Chick-fil-A, and coffee chains Starbucks and Dutch Bros are opening more drive-through-focused stores in 2024.
