Sympathizers of the alleged UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting suspect are raising money through online fundraisers to help him.

Prominent crowdfunding platform, GoFundMe, took down campaigns raising money for Luigi Mangione’s legal fees, citing its ban on fundraising for legal defenses in violent crimes.

But, another site, GiveSendGo, has decided not to remove a Mangione defense fund, which has raised over $137,000.

The Christian crowdfunding website defended its decision, emphasizing the importance of due process and access to a fair trial regardless of public opinion.

In the past, it has hosted controversial campaigns supporting Kenosha shooter Kyle Rittenhouse’s legal defense and defendants in the January 6 Capitol riot.

The platform framed its support of Mangione as consistent with its mission.

However, Mangione’s attorney stated he’s unlikely to accept unsolicited funds. The situation highlights tensions over moderation and justice on crowdfunding platforms.

The alleged shooter has received viral support online from critics questioning the US healthcare system’s flaws.

The internet was flooded with merchandise with phrases like “Free Luigi.” Last week, Amazon pulled down products with the words “Deny, Defend, Depose,” the three words reportedly etched on the shell casings found at the scene of the shooting.
