The FBI initially agreed to a joint probe but later decided to handle the case alone, cutting off Minnesota’s access to evidence and witnesses

Minnesota officials accused the FBI of blocking state investigators from probing the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent on January 7, deepening tensions between the state and the Trump administration.

Governor Tim Walz said any investigation that excludes state law enforcement cannot earn public trust and warned that fairness is now in doubt.

The FBI initially agreed to a joint probe but later decided to handle the case alone, cutting off Minnesota’s access to evidence and witnesses. As a result, the state withdrew from the investigation.

The shooting has triggered protests across Minneapolis, where Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, was killed. Video footage shared online appears to show her trying to flee rather than harm officers, a claim state and city leaders support.

Federal officials say the agent fired in self-defense. Political leaders remain sharply divided as calls for a full, independent investigation grow louder.
