Former Vice Chairman of the Federal Reserve Stanley Fischer has died at the age of 81. His son said complications from Alzheimer’s disease caused his death.
Fischer played a key role in shaping global economic policy for decades. He led Israel’s central bank from 2005 to 2013 and served as the Fed vice chairman from 2014 to 2017.
A renowned economist, he also worked as the International Monetary Fund’s second-in-command from 1994 to 2001, helping manage financial crises in Mexico, Russia, Asia, and Latin America.
He taught at colleges, including MIT, and mentored banking leaders like Ben Bernanke and Mario Draghi, influencing central banks worldwide.
