According to the indictment, Henry Cuellar and his wife, Imelda, benefitted from an oil and gas company owned by the government of Azerbaijan and a bank in Mexico

Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar and his wife were indicted yesterday, alleging that they took nearly $600,000 in foreign bribes between December 2014 and at least November 2021.

According to the indictment, Cuellar and his wife, Imelda, benefitted from an oil and gas company owned by the government of Azerbaijan and a bank in Mexico. In exchange, Cuellar allegedly agreed to influence US foreign policy in favor of Azerbaijan and pressured the Biden administration regarding measures beneficial to the bank.

The DOJ said the payments were allegedly laundered via front companies and intermediaries before ending up in shell companies owned by Imelda.

The lawmaker and his wife deny any wrongdoing.
