FDA to limit access to COVID-19 shots

The Trump administration announced yesterday that it will restrict approval of seasonal COVID-19 vaccines for most healthy people.

According to new standards by the FDA, adults 65 and older and high-risk younger people will continue to receive shots. However, vaccines will have to undergo lengthy studies before they can be approved for healthy people.

FDA officials criticized the US strategy of recommending COVID-19 boosters for all adults, regardless of age or health status, describing it as a “one-size-fits-all” approach.

The FDA’s new approach reflects recent actions under Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., questioning the use of the COVID-19 shot and reconsidering broad vaccine availability.
