US will get two giant pandas from China

During his White House visit, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced that the nation will send two new giant pandas to Zoo Atlanta, renewing a decade-old symbol of friendship between the two countries.

The pandas, a male named Ping Ping and a female named Fu Shuang, were born in 2020 at China’s Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. China has not yet provided details on when the pair will arrive in Atlanta.

Ahead of meeting with President Donald Trump, Xi said, “The giant panda has been an envoy of friendship between the Chinese and Americans.”

The US received its first pandas from China in 1972, after President Richard Nixon’s historic visit to Beijing. The gesture became an early symbol of improving relations between the two superpowers.

Giant pandas are native to China and are often loaned to countries including the US.

They might produce offspring when in a different nation, but all of them must be returned to China after the agreement ends.
