Meanwhile, Iran has halted talks with the US, blaming Israel’s offensive against Hezbollah in Lebanon, and warned that it will fully close the Strait of Hormuz, according to local media reports.
Though Lebanon and Netanyahu confirmed the latest ceasefire, the Israeli prime minister signaled that he would maintain military operations in southern Lebanon and warned of further strikes if Hezbollah continues its attacks.
Israel and Lebanon are set to meet in Washington this week in an effort to prevent further escalation and work toward a broader ceasefire agreement. The conflict has already killed more than 3,400 people in Lebanon and forced over 1 million residents from their homes.
