Strait of Hormuz carries nearly 20% of the global oil supply

The US military said it reopened a protected shipping lane in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday after destroying six Iranian boats targeting civilian vessels.

Officials said Iran launched cruise missiles, drones, and fast attack craft, but US forces neutralized every threat.

According to the Associated Press, two American-flagged merchant ships safely crossed under naval protection, marking a key step in restoring traffic through a route that carries nearly 20% of global oil supply.

Tensions sharply escalated as the United Arab Emirates reported its first attack since an early-April ceasefire. Air defenses intercepted 15 missiles and four drones.

In Fujairah, a drone strike triggered a fire at a major oil facility, injuring three Indian workers, while two cargo ships burned offshore.

Iran issued warnings against further escalation but avoided direct confirmation of the attacks, leaving regional risks high and global energy markets on edge.

President Donald Trump stopped short of saying Iran had violated the ceasefire.
