Tensions flared between Iran and Ukraine on Sunday after long-range Ukrainian missile strikes hit an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea, leaving one sailor dead and several injured.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the long-range attacks, saying his forces achieved “very strong results” against Iranian-linked military transport targets, including cargo ships and a warship.
The Middle Eastern country said the attacks resulted in the death of one sailor and injuries to others.
The attack has raised concerns that the conflict could widen across the Middle East. Over the weekend, Saudi Arabia said it intercepted two ballistic missiles launched from Yemen, adding to regional tensions.
Meanwhile, the US has paused strikes on Iran after 13 consecutive nights of attacks. President Donald Trump has reportedly halted assaults to allow room for diplomacy and preserve dwindling stockpiles of Patriot anti-missile interceptors.
Despite the pause in airstrikes, Central Command said its naval blockade of Iran remains fully in effect.
