Trump to speak at UN General Assembly

Global leaders will assemble at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York starting today, as key issues rage worldwide, including the Middle East and Russia-Ukraine conflicts, economic shocks, and apocalyptic AI threats.

Around 130 heads of state and government will speak at the assembly starting Tuesday, including President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will deliver the opening “state of the world” address.

Key diplomatic engagements include meetings between Trump and leaders of Persian Gulf Arab states on Iran. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was granted a visa to attend the UNGA.

Trump is expected to sign a security agreement with Denmark for its autonomous territory, Greenland.

Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are skipping the event.

This year’s UNGA will be Guterres's last as UN chief. His second five-year term ends on December 31, and no clear successor has emerged. It will also be the last for France’s Emmanuel Macron as President.
