Due to the increased number of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) diagnosis, demand for the stimulant drug Adderall—used to treat the condition—has surged.

In 2021 alone, 41.4 million prescriptions were dispensed in the US, indicating more than a 10% increase from 2020 levels, per IQVIA, a health research firm.

The rising demand for the drug made the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announce the Adderall shortage last month, which would last for another 30 to 60 days, per the body.
