Launching in ‘most states,’ Amazon RxPass will allow Prime members to have some generic medicines delivered to their doorsteps|Matthew Paul Argall; Images Money|CC BY-SA 3.0; CC BY 2.0

Amazon announced Tuesday it is offering RxPass to its Prime members for $5 a month, through which subscribers can gain access to around 50 generic prescription drugs.

But people in Medicare, Medicaid or any other government healthcare program will not be able to enroll in RxPass service.

Launching in “most states,” according to the ecommerce giant, the list of medicines includes popular high blood pressure, anxiety and acid reflux medications. However, it doesn’t include insulin.

Amazon Pharmacy’s RxPass can be seen as a response to Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drug Company, which currently has a customer base of 1.5 million and offers more than 350 generic drugs at discounted prices.
