A recent study indicates sugar substitute erythritol—commonly found in keto-friendly and low-calorie ice creams, baked goods and condiments—increases the risk of heart attack, stroke and death within three years.

Erythritol is naturally produced in the human body, too, but large amounts lead to blood clots and higher risks of heart attacks.

But,
Most people involved in the study were already prone to heart diseases due to diabetes and high blood pressure. However, to be safe, doctors involved in the study suggest their patients add a few drops of honey or a pinch of sugar instead of artificial sweeteners.

Many in the medical community are worried about the long-term effects of sweeteners since there is no conclusive evidence they are safe when consumed for longer periods.
