The eyedrops linked to ‘extensively drug-resistant’ infections have been recalled|Community Eye Health|CC BY-NC 2.0

The CDC asked the public to “immediately discontinue” the use of EzriCare Artificial Tears after 55 cases of the “extensively drug-resistant” infections were reported across 12 states.

The infections have caused vision loss in at least five people and one death.

According to officials, hospitalized people and those with weakened immune systems are most at risk of developing the infection.

Post the CDC’s investigation, EzriCare said it stopped the distribution and sales of the eyedrops and recommended that people stop using them.

The CDC is conducting further tests. ErziCare said there is no definitive evidence linking the product—manufactured in India by Global Pharma Healthcare Pvt—to the infections. The eyedrops have been recalled.
