The rate of kids accidentally ingesting marijuana edibles has increased at alarming rates in the past five years and medical professionals suspect wide legalization of pot is the root cause.
According to a study published Tuesday, “there were 7,043 exposures reported during 2017–2021,” and 97.7% of them occurred in homes.
The stigma around recreational and medical marijuana has decreased a lot in recent times with 37 US states legalizing medical cannabis and 21 states regulating its recreational use.
The study and medical professionals suggest parents be more vigilant and states adopt laws that make marijuana edibles less appealing and accessible to children. Some experts suggest using childproof packaging.
