Around 60.85% of new moms aged 20–24 skip the postpartum care window

According to new data from Cedar Gate Technologies, 57% of new mothers miss their recommended postpartum follow-up visit within 21 to 56 days after childbirth—significantly higher than earlier national estimates of 40%.

The situation is even worse for younger mothers: 60.85% of women aged 20–24 skip this care window, compared to 55.96% of moms aged 40–44.

The study highlights a growing gap in maternal health in the US, with younger mothers being the least likely to get the care they need.

Postpartum checkups are recommended within weeks after childbirth, and are essential for addressing complications like depression, infections, and hypertension. It is also vital for physical recovery and future family planning.

Health experts warn that these missed appointments represent a failure in care coordination.

The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology recommends timely checkups in the first 3–12 weeks post-delivery.
