Researchers found a 15–20% rise in chronic health conditions among kids aged 3 to 17

Children’s physical and mental health in the US worsened significantly between 2007 and 2023, according to a major study led by the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Researchers found a 15–20% rise in chronic health conditions among kids aged 3 to 17.

Childhood obesity rose from 17% to nearly 21%, while early-onset menstruation jumped from 9% to almost 15%.

Depressive symptoms surged from 26% in 2009 to 40% in 2023. US children were also 15 times more likely to die from firearms than those in peer countries.

Although asthma rates dropped, cases of anxiety, autism, and vision problems increased. Experts urge action to improve the full ecosystem shaping children’s health, beyond just medical care.
