Around 1,700 Disneyland, California employees who perform as the famed Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and many more., are unionizing, they announced Tuesday.

Disneyland employs around 21,000 people, most of whom are part of unions. The character performers were a non-unionized group who now want to join the 51,000-strong Actor’s Equity Association.

Why?
The group is advocating for increased wages, scheduling transparency and improved workplace conditions.

They seek a minimum hourly wage increase comparable to their counterparts in Disney World, Orlando, Florida—considering the higher cost of living in Orange County, California.

Notably, California’s unaffordable living prices were brought up by the fast-food workers who formed the industry’s first-ever union last week.
