Globally, across 27 countries, women hold only 13% of leadership positions at AI firms

Women accounted for just 26% of hires into AI-skilled roles, compared to 50% in other positions, according to recent LinkedIn research.

The disparity exists despite the surge in artificial intelligence hiring in the tech industry. It disproportionately impacts women’s earning capacity.

Brookings Institution data reveals that 86% of the 6.1 million workers in clerical and administrative roles vulnerable to AI disruption are women.

AI job postings on LinkedIn have doubled since 2023, offering a typical salary of about $177,000 compared to roughly $80,000 for non-AI roles.

Globally, across 27 countries, women hold only 13% of leadership positions at AI firms, compared to 20% in the broader tech sector.

Experts suggest that adopting skills-based hiring over traditional degree or title requirements could help bridge this divide.
