Upon reaching a tentative minimum basic agreement with major Hollywood studios over the weekend, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) East and West decided to end the 148-day strike at midnight. Wednesday.
The 11,500 striking writers will return to their desks starting today and have between October 2 and October 9 to vote and ratify the tentative deal.
The three-year contract promises
- An immediate annual pay raise of 5% once the agreement is ratified, followed by 4% in the second year and 3.5% in the third year.
- Writers cannot use AI tools to write unless the studios approve.
- Studios can’t force writers to use AI tools either.
- Streamers should provide viewership data to the WGA.
- A 50% bonus residual payments to writers for TV shows that are, “viewed by 20% or more of the service’s domestic subscribers in the first 90 days of release.”
- Studios must employ at least six writers for shows with 13 or more episodes.
While the WGA strike has ended, the actors’ strike continues.
