Elon Musk-owned X platform and his AI startup xAI have filed an antitrust lawsuit against Apple and ChatGPT maker OpenAI. The suit alleges the companies maintain monopolies in artificial intelligence and block competition.
The move follows Musk’s recent threat of legal action, where he posted on X that Apple’s practices make it “impossible for any AI company besides OpenAI to reach #1 in the App Store.”
Now, the 61-page lawsuit filed in Texas claims the same. It also says Apple views AI as an “existential threat” to its iPhone franchise and is partnering with OpenAI to prevent that.
It further portrays OpenAI as profit-driven, willing to sacrifice safety to expand market control.
Apple integrated ChatGPT into iOS last year. OpenAI dismissed the lawsuit as harassment, while Apple has yet to respond.
Musk has previously sued the ChatGPT maker, claiming the company, led by Sam Altman, strayed from its nonprofit mission to develop AI for the benefit of humanity.
