The Supreme Court’s emergency order could revoke the temporary deportation protections for nearly 350,000 Venezuelans

The Supreme Court on Monday allowed the Trump administration to end the Biden-era Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for thousands of Venezuelans in the US.

The humanitarian status offered deportation protection and access to work permits to people living in America from countries struck by war and natural disasters.

The high court’s emergency order could strip away work authorization and revoke the temporary deportation protections for nearly 350,000 Venezuelans, said the case’s plaintiffs.

A federal judge has blocked the Trump administration from revoking the temporary deportation protections while the legal challenge was underway, but the Supreme Court overturned that, allowing the government to deport while the case carries on.

It is viewed as a win for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s efforts to deport illegal aliens. The Trump administration also ended TPS for thousands of Afghans and Cameroonians in April.
