Satirical news outlet The Onion announced a new licensing agreement to take over Alex Jones’ InfoWars company.

The move would help settle the more than $1 billion Jones owes the families of Sandy Hook shooting victims. He was sued for defamation after falsely claiming on the show that the 2012 mass school shooting was a hoax. The tragic incident killed 20 children and six adults.

The Onion had won the bankruptcy auction for InfoWars in 2024, but a court temporarily blocked the sale, raising concerns about auction transparency.

In August, a Texas state court ruled that the Jones’ media outlet be turned over to an appointed receiver who would be responsible for selling it and using the proceeds to pay the Sandy Hook victims.

The Onion now seeks court approval to license the site from its appointed manager, at $81,000 monthly

The revamped InfoWars platform will shift to a comedy network led by creative director Tim Heidecker. CEO Ben Collins noted that the site will run as a parody.

A final hearing on the deal is scheduled for April 30 in Travis County, Texas.
